Bougainville Affairs office established in Arawa

On-going dialogue between the Autonomous Bougainville and National Governments is critical as Bougainville approaches the October referendum vote.

This joint partnership has been further strengthened following the establishment of an office to accommodate the National Minister for Bougainville Affairs, Sir Puka Temu, to use while in Bougainville.

Chief Secretary to the Autonomous Bougainville Government, Joseph Nobetau, said this initiative is important as it provides a place for the Minister to work when he is in the region.

“I am very pleased that we have been able to provide this office space to Sir Puka in Arawa. “

“As the referendum approaches, and as the two governments continue to collaborate on broader peace-building and post-referendum initiatives, it is essential that the Minister have a space where he can work when he visits the region,” Nobetau said.

The National Minister’s office is located at Section 11, Arawa Town.

Sir Puka was appointed as National Minister for Bougainville Affairs following the formation of the new National Government under Prime Minister, James Marape, earlier this month.

Following his appointment, Sir Puka joined his counterpart, Albert Punghau, ABG Minister for Peace Agreement Implementation, for the Joint Referendum Awareness Roadshow in Bougainville where they visited Torokina, Wakunai, Tinputz and Kunua Districts respectively.
