Bougainville challenged to accept change

Bougainvilleans have been challenged to except the sweeping developmental changes the ABG will be instituting to enhance its efficiency to deliver services to the people.

President Ishmael Toroama issued the challenge during the signing of the Tonolei Landowners MOU signing with the Autonomous Bougainville Government.

“Our people must be ready to except the seasonal and structural changes which my government will be initiating,” President Toroama said.

“People must be receptive to these changes and allow the government and the law to operate within our communities,” he said.

The President also appealed to landowners in Buka Town to start considering giving their unused lands to the government to start building infrastructure.

The President said that he intends to correct the mistake of the past by applying these new measures.

He issued a stern warning to people occupying government houses in Buka and Arawa to start considering their options to vacate these government assets.

The ABG has plans to make Arawa become Bougainville’s industrial center but this will not materialize with the current situation in the former capital.

The President has been adamant on rebuilding Bougainville’s socio-economic structures since his inauguration almost two months ago.

President Toroama’s proposed plans for rapid growth is part of his Six (6) point strategy that forms the basis of Mr Toroama’s presidency.
