Bougainville Public Service to begin 2020 with church dedication service

The Bougainville Public Service will have its annual Church Dedication Service on Friday 14 February 2020, at the Hahela Cathedral in Buka.

The theme for this year’s dedication service is ‘Take Bougainville Forward’.

Acting Chief Secretary to the Autonomous Bougainville Government, Thomas Raivet, said the objective of the service is to reflect and thank God for a successful 2019 and renew the commitment of the public service as ‘servants of God’ and servants of the people of Bougainville.

“2020 will be a challenging year, particularly with the 2019 referendum results at 98 per cent vote for independence,” he said.

“Pressure has intensified on the Bougainville Public Service to not only deliver government services swiftly and efficiently, but rather to support the Bougainville Government in facilitating the consultation process on behalf of the ABG and the people of Bougainville.

“The importance of precise planning cannot be over-emphasized thus; we need God’s guidance and providence for the next twelve months.”

Mr. Raivet said it is important that all public servants begin the year as a united team.

“It is crucial that the Bougainville Public Service starts the 2020 calendar year united, strengthened, synergized and ready to confront the challenges before us,” he said.

“We cannot Take Bougainville Forward if the chains of corruption continue to shackle us down, and so this dedication service is important for us all as servants of God and servants of the people of Bougainville, to break free from these chains of corruption and come together at the foot of the Cross on this important day and lay our burdens before Him,” he said.

The service will be attended by all public servants, including ABG Ministers and Members, development partners and representatives of the private sector.
