Consultations to begin after ABG elections
The Governments of Bougainville and Papua New Guinea have decided through the Joint Supervisory Body meeting, that the consultations process will begin after the 2020 ABG general elections.
This was a key agenda discussed during the JSB meeting that was held in Port Moresby yesterday.
The JSB also discussed the framework of the post-referendum inter-government consultation process, where it endorsed the proposed framework which contained designs on:
Consultations process structure
Consultations process timeframe
Consultation Secretariat support, and
The moderator for inter-governmental process
It was further resolved that the Ministries of Bougainville Affairs and ABG Post Referendum Consultations and Dialogue, establish the Post Referendum Joint Ministerial Consultations Preparation Team to lead this process.
The Post Referendum Joint Ministerial Consultations Preparation Team has also been tasked by the JSB to develop a 12 month program for the Joint Consultations and present this in the next JSB meeting, with a minimum of three joint consultations to be held in various parts of the country.
