Eivo Torau reconciliation paves way for development

The Eivo Torau Constituency has conducted six reconciliations to signify its readiness to progress economic development for its people and the rest of Bougainville. The six reconciliations are to resolve grievances and issues between parties over conflict that resulted during the Bougainville Crisis. The reconciliations are a prelude to the redevelopment of the now defunct Manetai Limestone Project that existed pre-Crisis in the Constituency. Member for Eivo-Torau, Lawrence Sirapui said that his people are ready to embrace development in their constituency. He added that these reconciliations are an indication to the government of the constituency’s willingness to accept development of its resources with the Manetai Limestone project being the first of many. Mr. Sirapui further stated that the constituency is abundant with natural resources and they also extend an invitation to the ABG to look at developing these other resources. He says his people want to show the other constituencies on Bougainville that they are contributing to Bougainville’s journey to independence. He adds that this example is what the other constituencies should emulate. President Ishmael Toroama and ministers from his cabinet were also in attendance at the ceremony as well as Acting Chief Secretary to the ABG Shadrach Himata.
