The latest from across Bougainville

Health Minister visits major health facilities in AROB

ABG Minister for Health and Member for Atolls Constituency, Hon. Raymond Masono will be visiting all health facilities across Bougainville as part of his 100-days in office.

Minister Masono says this visit will begin on Monday 9th November 2020, with a meeting with the Bougainville-based Members of the National Doctors Association.

“The purpose of the visit is to meet with and talk to primary health workers who are the frontline of our health care delivery system and to get their perceptions of the health system in Bougainville,” he said.

“Whilst the challenges facing Bougainville’s health service delivery are not different to those faced in other provinces like shortage of medicines and staff, other challenges are unique to Bougainville’s situation and we must find solutions to them.”

The familiarization tour will end with a visit to the Buka General Hospital, Suhin Isolation Center and the Tanamalo Community Health Workers Traning Center in Haku Constituency. He will also visit selected remote health centers in Buka.

The Minister will be accompanied by the ABG Health Secretary, Clement Totavun.

Meanwhile, plans are also underway to host a Bougainville Health Conference within the 100-days in office.

“Health is everybody’s business and every stakeholder must participate in discussions that can assist in improving the health of our people in Bougainville,” Masono said.

“An independent Bougainville will require its people to be as healthy as possible and in order to have a healthy population, our health system must respond to the health demands of our people.”
