Joint Technical Team meeting set for 26th November

A meeting of the Joint Technical Teams from the Governments of Bougainville and Papua New Guinea is set for Thursday 26th November 2020, in Port Moresby.

The pre-Joint Supervisory Body meeting that was held between the Bougainville President and PNG Prime Minister earlier this month set the context for these joint government discussions to take place.

The National Government and Bougainville Government Chief Secretaries will chair this meeting where all agenda items for the upcoming Joint Supervisory Body meeting will be finalized.

The agenda items cover a wide range of issues including outstanding financial matters, the Bougainville Economic and Investment Summit, Tax Initiatives and Fisheries benefit sharing arrangements.

The post-referendum issue will also be discussed by the technical teams, including the joint consultation timeframe, structures and also on the ratification matter.

The Bougainville Government also plans to table an agenda called the ‘Bougainville Independence Treaty’ for both governments’ leadership to jointly commit and endorse at the upcoming JSB meeting.

The Bougainville Administration, led by the ABG Chief Secretary Shadrach Himata, has provided the ABG Leadership with detailed briefs on the agenda items before the Technical Teams meet tomorrow.

Following this briefing, the ABG Leadership is confident that the joint meeting will have a firm basis to finalize all agenda items and have a clear pathway for constructive dialogue with the National Government.
