K20 million for Bougainville major roads

The National Government has made available up to K20 million to support road infrastructure in Bougainville.

This announcement was made today at the conclusion of the Joint Supervisory Body meeting, by National Minister for Works, Hon. Michael Nali when presenting the cheques to his counterpart ABG Minister for Works, Hon. Luke Karaston.

“There is so much that needs to be done on Bougainville. As Minister for Works, I am committed to making sure that we improve the roads in Bougainville,” Nali said.

Three major road projects in North (Buka Ring Road), Central (Kieta to Toimanapu Road) and South Bougainville (Kangu to Toimanapu) will receive K3million, K4.5million and K5million respectively.

ABG Works Minister, Hon. Luke Karaston thanked the national government for the support which he described as very timely.

“What we have been doing in the past years at least has come to us seeing some good signs coming up so with this gesture that you have given the people of Bougainville, I am so glad on behalf of the people of Bougainville and of course the ABG,” Karaston said.

“This funding will go a long way to help us do some work that will help the people of Bougainville.”

Apart from the funding support for Bougainville roads, the ABG also received the 2018 outstanding payment totaling K5million from the National Fisheries Authority.
