LAUNCHING OF YWAM MEDICAL OUTREACH

The Autonomous Bougainville Government has welcomed the Youth With A Mission (YWAM) Medical Team to deliver much needed health care services to the coastal communities in Bougainville.

In officially launching the YWAM’s health outreach program, Vice President Hon Raymond Masono thanked the team for volunteering their time and expertise to come and serve the people of Bougainville through health services that are not readily available.

“Your willingness to come and assist our people demonstrates your support for ABG’s efforts to make health services accessible to the majority of its people,” he said.

Co-ordinator of the YWAM Medical Team Ms Julie Maclapan thanked the ABG for the warm welcome and looked forward to delivering health care to the remote coastal communities in Bougainville.

“This is the first trip of such kind into this region and we will be bringing Eye Surgery, Dentistry, primary health care, vaccinations and baby checks as well as other services to most remote locations in  this region,” she said.

The YWAM Medical Team’s focus is taking health care to the very remote areas. They will visit Nissan, Atolls, Torokina, Kunua and other remote areas in North and South Bougainville as well.

The Team will be in Bougainville for the next six months and are made of medical professionals from Gambia in Africa, Australia, New Zealand, Netherlands, America, United Kingdom and different parts of PNG.

“God has sent us at such a time to serve the people of Bougainville and though we cannot cure or treat all the diseases, we want you to know that people of Bougainville you are not forgotten,” Ms Maclapan added.

Meanwhile, the ABG Minister for Health Hon Dennis Lokonai and the Health Department in Bougainville have welcomed the team to assist them to deliver the much needed health services to the hard to reach areas of Bougainville.

“We hope that the medical ship will provide advance health care services that are not readily available in our health facilities and hospitals thus will contribute to improve health programs and reduce unwanted events such as maternal and child mortality,” Mr Lokonai said.

He added that the local health professionals on the ground will be available to work with YWAM Medical team during their outreach in the next five months.
