Medical Ship visit to Bougainville

Public health and capacity in the Autonomous Region of Bougainville will receive a significant boost with the visit of the Youth With A
Mission (YWAM) Medical Ship on July 24th 2018.

The YWAM Liberty Ship will have five outreach missions in Bougainville between the months of July and November, and will assist the ABG in
providing much-needed medical services and training in remote parts of Bougainville.

The visit is made possible through a Memorandum of Understanding that was signed by the Autonomous Bougainville Government and the YWAM in
an effort to help Bougainville build its own health services and medical support capacity as an autonomous region.

This partnership will help the ABG to more effectively align our own limited resources to achieve better and effective health benefits for
Bougainville.

The YWAM visit contributes to helping the ABG attain its short term priorities of minimizing health issues amongst Bougainvilleans as
outlined in the Strategic Development Plan.

The ABG further recognizes the importance of developing the health sector that will help build a strong and healthy population towards
the referendum and beyond.

The YWAM is a floating hospital which voluntarily serves people in the Pacific Region. It has served over 84 per cent of the people in rural and remote areas in Papua New Guinea.
