Momis calls for unity

President Hon. John Momis has called for unity from the members of the Bougainville House of Representatives (BHoR) and the people of Bougainville.

“As the referendum approaches and Bougainvilleans consider what our future political status should be, I want to appeal for unity,” he said.

“Unity is what defines a community; it is what defines a nation. And unity can only be achieved when issues such as regionalization and regional disputes are put to rest.”

“We are aware, there are many examples globally of referendums taking place where the goal of independence has been achieved, only then to see newly formed states fragment and break into civil war. I use South Sudan as a case in point.”

“We cannot allow this to happen to our beautiful region. Now is the time to unite, not divide. Now is the time to come together, to harness the best of all of Bougainville and to lay the foundations for a peaceful future.”
