Momis Welcomes Samb

The collaboration between the ABG and the National Government continues to gain momentum as both governments prepare of the referendum.

President of the Autonomous Bougainville Government Grand Chief Dr John Momis made the statement as he welcomed the Minister for Bougainville Affairs and Goilala MP Hon. William Samb into the region.

President Momis was adamant that the continue growth in the relationship between both governments would enable the referendum to have credibility as the process unfolds in the coming months.

“The Ministry of Bougainville Affairs is the conduit between the ABG and the National Government and Minister Samb’s arrival on Bougainville shows PNG’s commitment to peace building on Bougainville,” Momis said.

“The last JSB Meeting was a success that saw both government consensually agreeing to important issues pertaining to the referendum, paramount amongst these was agreeing to the Question of to be put,” he said.

He added that the last JSB resolutions will pave the way forward to successfully implementing the Bougainville Peace Agreement and administering the referendum.

“I welcome Minister Samb and his delegation to Bougainville on his first official visit to the region as the Minister for Bougainville Affairs,” he said.

“I wish him well as he travels throughout the region and meets with Bougainville’s leaders and the people,” he added.

The Minister was also grateful for the opportunity to visit the region and thanked the President and the Autonomous Bougainville Government for having him in the region.

He said he was looking forward to traveling throughout the region and to meet with the leaders and people of Bougainville.

This visit is the Minister’s first visit to Bougainville in his capacity as Minister Sports and Bougainville Affairs.

Upon landing in Bougainville he paid a courtesy call on the President and met with the Chief Secretary to the ABG Joseph Nobetau.
