PHASE TWO FOR ENROLMENT COMMENCES IN BOUGAINVILLE

The enrolment exercise to update the details of all eligible voters has commenced in Bougainville.

The Bougainville Referendum Commission (BRC) in a statement issued this week, said that this is the second phase of updating the referendum roll which began on the 3rd of June and will end on Monday 17th June, 2019.

In this phase, all ward recorders will be visiting households to update the details of eligible voters in their respective wards, in preparation for the upcoming referendum.

The BRC also urged all persons eligible to enroll to ensure that they consult their respective ward recorders to confirm or update their details.

The BRC said, “it is important to note that in order to vote in the Referendum, a person must be on the Referendum Roll. Persons who are not on the Referendum Roll will not be able to vote in the Referendum.”

The eligibility criteria that must be met for voting in the Bougainville referendum in Bougainville are:

• Residence in Bougainville for at least the past six months prior to enrolment

For Bougainvilleans living outside of Bougainville, the BRC explained that they will be working closely with the PNG Electoral Commission through provincial offices to facilitate enrolment, and this is expected to happen in the coming days.

• Must have links to Bougainville by birth, adoption, marriage or clan

• Were born on or before 12 October 2001
