President remembers fallen heros

"Today marks the solemn day that our close friends and neighbours, Australia and New Zealand, remember those that fell during the First World War.  It is also the day that Australia and New Zealand remember all those who served and died in times of war, and those who continue to contribute to active military campaigns today.

As Bougainvilleans, we have a long and shared history with our Australian and New Zealand friends.  During the Second World War, Bougainville was the site of many battles between allied forces and the Japanese, with significant campaigns taking place around Torokina and Buin, and many other parts of Bougainville.  To this day, the remnants of war remind us of the sacrifice that was made.

To my fellow Bougainvilleans, I ask that we all take a moment to remember and reflect upon these battles as Australia and New Zealand mark this solemn day.

Let us remember all those that have made the greatest sacrifice during times of war.

Lest we forget."
