Tulsa: Think outside the box

The Economic Development Ministry is one of the most important portfolio in this Government because it is answerable to the Bougainville Peace Agreement in driving the Fiscal Self-Reliance Benchmark.

Member for Haku Constituency, Hon. Robert Chika MHR, made this remark today in his first press statement as the newly appointed Minister for Economic Development.

Hon. Robert Chika Tulsa said that, there was no time and space for self-interest and conflict of interest on those of us who are vested with the responsibilities to make it happen in the interest of the people of Bougainville.

“In growing our economy, ABG and its citizens must collaboratively and interactively think outside of the box and together create and establish regulations, policies, institutions, key infrastructures, key development and project our people from outside manipulation and exploitation through individual or group self-interest and from conflict of interest by those of us who manage and regulate the Economic system.”

“As the custodian and overseer of the economic wellbeing of the people of Bougainville, specifically, I now call upon and publicly instruct the Secretary Department of Economic Development, Sector Directors and line officers as our Economic Development, Sector players and professionals to perform at the best of your abilities as catalysts and experts in your own rights to motivate, influence and impact the people of Bougainville to happily participate with enthusiasm to becoming fiscal self reliant through owning and growing the economy.”

“I also call on the National Government Agencies like Internal Revenue Commission (IRC), Customs and Investment Promotion Authority (IPA) to continue to play their roles in ensuring that investors and businesses comply to play their roles in ensuring that investors and businesses comply and operate within state regulations.”

“I, as Minister will stand with you as you perform your duties without fear or favor,” Hon. Tulsa said.
