Bougainville Veterans and the PNG National Security Forces have sealed a pledge of commitment to collectively implement the Bougainville Peace Agreement.
The signing of this Statement of Commitment ended the pre-reconciliation ceremony that happened yesterday in Kokopo.
The veterans’ committed to uphold the Melanesian values of brotherhood and resolved that regardless of the outcome of the referendum, they will not return to any armed conflict.
They also assured the governments of Papua New Guinea and Bougainville and the international community that they will continue to uphold the significance of the ceremony and ensure that peace prevails now and into the future.
The Statement was jointly signed by the PNG Defense Force represented by Chief of Staff Captain Philip Polewara, and Bougainville Veterans Leader, Ishmael Toroama.
