Youth from the south region learn about the referendum

More than thirty Youths from the four districts of South Bougainville have attended a four days workshop on the Bougainville Peace Agreement which started on the Tuesday 9th April . They have also received training on conducting awareness, which ended on Friday.

Many do not speak English and a couple has disability but that hasn’t become an obstacle. All have participated to know more about the current updates of the Bougainville Referendum, which will take place on October 12th 2019.

The ABG Department of Community Development coordinated this activity with funding assistance from United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) to reach out to the youth population who live in the very remote areas and have very little knowledge about the (Bougainville) referendum.

Facilitators represented the Bougainville Referendum Commission (BRC), Department of Bougainville Peace Agreement Implementations (DPAI), Parliamentary Service, Directorate of Media and Communications, Department of Community Development and Department of Community Government.

The workshop will continue in Arawa on Monday 15 April with youth groups participating from all districts of the Central Region.
