ABG to establish in Arawa

The Autonomous Bougainville Government will soon begin an exercise to repossess government assets in Arawa Town in its attempt to reestablish government services in the former capital. This exercise is part of President Ishmael Toroama’s intention to give Bougainvilleans in South and Central Bougainvilleans easy access to government services. With most government services centralized in Buka Town, Bougainvilleans on the mainland are forced to travel to Buka Town to accesses vital government services. “Before the government can establish its offices in Arawa Town, residents in the township must start releasing government assets back to the ABG, this include houses and land that is currently occupied by people,” President Toroama said. “It is common knowledge that traveling to Buka to seek government services is very expensive; to make life easier for our people and to bring services to our people we must be ready to allow the ABG, our government, to reestablish itself in Arawa Town,” President Toroama said. “If we want to see economic growth in Arawa; a growth that fosters stability and good order we must adhere to the government’s priorities on development,” the President urged. President Toroama said that law and order is a key factor in making Arawa Town attract development from the private and government sectors. President Toroama also issued a stern warning to law breakers that his government will not tolerate any sort of unruly behavior that stands to challenge the government and the laws of the land. He warned that the government will be clamping down on offenders who think they are above the law. An important move by President Toroama to have more government services established on the mainland is the recent opening of the Law and Justice Office Complex in Arawa last week. For the first time, the people of Arawa will now have permanent access to Community Corrections and Public Solicitor services, and the ABG Department of Justice and Legal Services. These agencies will be based in Central Bougainville to drive the law and justice sector forward as the ABG works to develop the law and justice sector down to the community level.
