Halia Constituency launches Development Plan

The Halia Constituency has launched the Halia Development and Work Plan to coordinate development in the constituency. 

The plan was officially launched by Member for Halia and Vice President and Minister for Economic Development Patrick Nisira yesterday at Tohatsi Village.

Mr Nisira said the Plan will complement the constituency’s Independence Ready Mission Implementation initiative to ensure the constituency is independence ready.

He added that the Halia Development and Work Plan is also aligned with the overarching Bougainville Strategic Development Plan.

“The plan has programs that will focus on a housing scheme, water tanks and an SME scheme that addresses the basic needs of the constituency,” Mr Nisira added.

“It is my fervent hope to see progress in Halia in infrastructural development and the improvement of the lives of my constituents,” he said.

President Ishmael Toroama along with members of the ABG and Acting Chief Secretary Shadrach Himata were also in attendance to witness the launch.

President Toroama congratulated the Vice President and his constituents for initiating the plan in an effort to progress development.

He said Bougainville was at a very critical period in its journey to independence and that with its meagre resources it was important consolidate it’s efforts to bring development to the people.

“Your development plan will complement the independence mission and the people are required to support your member Vice President Nisira to ensure its successful implementation,” he said.

The launch was witnessed by members of the Halia Community Government and the 10 wards who also received funding totalling K20, 000 to support their development priorities.

Women and youth groups also received a portion of the funds that was allocated through the Halia Constituency’s Development Grant.
