Induction underway for ABG Members

All members of the fourth Bougainville House of Representatives will undergo a five-day induction program this week.

The induction will run under the theme of “Learning to serve in the best interest of Bougainville past, present and into the future” and will allow the new members to learn about their roles as representatives of the people.

Clerk of the Bougainville House of Representatives, Robert Tapi explained that the induction will cover the following:

· Role of Members of the House of Representatives

· Assist new members to follow and participate in debates during parliament sessions

· Constituency duties and role as Members of Parliamentary Committees

· Understanding of parliamentary democracy in Bougainville and Papua New Guinea

“The 5 days induction consists of strengthening new Members of the Bougainville House of Representatives Fourth House to enable them to contribute to democracy and help meet the aspirations of the people,” said Tapi.

“Parliamentarians have a critical role to play in driving forward people-centered development that is effective and responsive to the needs of their constituents.”

All ABG Department heads are also expected to make presentations to the new members to ensure they understand existing governance structures, processes and systems.
