Leaders urged to drive independence-readiness with passion

Bougainville’s leaders must have the passion to drive the independence aspirations of the people that was expressed through the 97.7% referendum results.

President Ishmael Toroama made this statement during the induction of the Central Regional Parliamentary Committee on the Independence Ready Mission Implementation today in Arawa.

“Our aspiration to be an independent nation must no longer be a dream, it must be manifested as a reality,” President Toroama said.

“As leaders you are required to lead your people in this very important initiative our government and our people in unity will be embarking on,” President Toroama said.

“There are divisions in the Bougainville leadership, my challenge to you all is to unite and work together to implement our Independence Mission,” President Toroama added.

“We already have the Six Point Strategy as our guiding principle to mobilise our resources, our people and create socio-economic and political change in our constituencies,” President Toroama said.

The three Regional Parliamentary Committees of North, South and Central Bougainville comprises of ABG MP’s of the respective regions.

With the ABG embarking on the Independence Ready Mission Implementation each region has set up its own Independence Ready Committee in each constituency.

These committees are comprised of top and lower levels of Bougainville Government leadership and other stakeholders from the communities.

The chairman of each Committee is the constituency members who are supported by the community governments.

Inductions for North and Central have already begun after the launch of the Independence Ready Mission Implementation for the two regions.

President Toroama will officially launch the program for South Bougainville tomorrow in Buin Town.
