National Member for South Bougainville hands over project assets to Bana Special Economic Zone

In a small but significant ceremony on the evening of Wednesday June 9 the National ICT Minister and Member for South Bougainville officially handed key project assets to the Bana Special Economic Zone (BSEZ) project team.

The project assets included a vehicle, an outboard motor trailer and a dingy, including a state of the art Real-Time Kinematic (RTK) survey machine.

While receiving the assets, Member for Baba and Patron of Bana Special Economic Zone, Hon. Emmanuel-Carlos Kaetavara thanked the National Member for his continued support, confidence and partnership in the project.

"All these assets are vital and will be crucial for mobility and satellite linked surveys as the Bana SEZ project goes into the 3rd phase of Land mobilization and social mapping activities. They will be under the custody of the project team and strictly subject to an SOP that has been drafted by the project team for approval,” Kaetavara said.

Witnessing the handover ceremony were the ABG Vice President Hon. Patrick Nisira and the ABG Lands Minister Hon. Robert Hamal Sawa, Bana representatives and senior officers of the Bougainville Public Service including the acting Chief Secretary, acting Deputy Chief Secretary Operations, Bougainville Treasurer, Presidents Chief of Staff, and the District Coordinator for Bana.

In his address, the Vice President appealed to the citizens of the Bana and Bougainville to ensure the proper utilization and security of the valuable assets.

"Bougainville is on the Independence Mission and it is through projects like this that economic control can be materialized, under the President’s 6 Point Strategy,” Nisira said.

The National Minister for ICT and Member for South Bougainville in responding to the statements shared by the ABG leaders, pledged his continued and unwavering commitment to the people of South Bougainville, and to the Autonomous Bougainville Government.

The assets were sourced through the South Bougainville Member’s District Development Authority (DDA) budget which the National Member earmarked K1 million for the project which he presented earlier this year.
