South Bougainville launches Independence-ready program in Buin
The people of South Bougainville have rallied their support behind the Autonomous Bougainville Government as President Ishmael Toroama launched their Independence Ready Mission Implementation in Buin Town today.
Southerners turned up in droves from the four districts of Buin, Siwai, Bana and Torokina to witness the ABG take another bold step in embracing Bougainville’s independence aspirations.
Chairman of the Regional Parliamentary Committee for South Bougainville Hon. Joseph Tooke welcomed President Toroama and his delegation to his Baubake Constituency where Buin Town is situated in.
The President’s delegation that included Speaker of the Bougainville House of Representatives Hon. Simon Pentanu, Attorney General Ezekiel Massat and members of the ABG.
Also present at the launch was head of the public service and Acting Chief Secretary Shadrach Himata and various departmental heads from the Bougainville Administration.
Mr Tooke expressed his gratitude to the President on behalf of the leaders and people of South Bougainville in launching the initiative.
Mr Tooke said the South Bougainville leadership in the ABG was committed to readying their constituencies to be independence ready like the rest of Bougainville.
He admitted that there are issues that South Bougainville still had to resolve such as the Konnou Conflict and U-Vistract faction in Tonu as well as other socio-economic issues that existed in the constituencies of South Bougainville.
However, this admission came with an optimistic outlook from Mr Tooke who said that South Bougainville’s leaders will successfully implement the independence ready mission under President Toroama’s Six Point Strategy.
The launching in South Bougainville completes the regional launches of the three regions in North, Central and South Bougainville.
Following the launch, the ABG Members from South Bougainville will be inducted by the Department of Bougainville Independence Mission on the integration of the Six Point Strategy into their constituency’s development plans.
The department will also be inducting the Constituency Independence Ready Mission Committees before rolling out the initiative in all constituencies of South Bougainville.
