BEC to be convened at Petatz

In an unprecedented move the Bougainville Executive Council (BEC) will be convened for the first time outside of the region’s capital in Buka Town.

The full cabinet of the Toroama Administration will convene the BEC at Petatz Island, Tonsu Constituency on the West Coast of Buka Island, North Bougainville tomorrow.

This move is part of President Ishmael Toroama’s direction to bring the ABG’s governance structures right down to the people.

President Toroama said that this will allow the average Bougainvillean in the rural communities to interact with their leaders and see for themselves how government decisions are made.

He said for the people to appreciate the Autonomous Bougainville Government they need to hear, see and feel how the highest echelons of Bougainville’s political leaders work towards developing the region.

He added that this is also one way of independence readiness through direct engagement with the communities by the ABG leadership to encourage and motivate the people.

The convening of the BEC in Petatz Island will not be a one off event, plans are already underway to hold BEC Meetings in the different districts throughout the region in North, Central and South Bougainville.
