Bougainville farewells Late Masono

It was an emotional farewell today for the Late Hon. Raymond Masono ABG Minister for Health at the Buka Town United Church who had passed away last week after a brief illness. The mourners at the state funeral were led by President Ishmael Toroama and members of his cabinet and the Bougainville House of Representatives as well as Bougainville’s National MPs. Also in attendance were National Ministers Jelta Wong Minister for Health and Wera Mori Minister for Environment and Conservation. President Toroama described the Late Honorable Raymond Masono as a man of principle who lived a life of service. “Raymond Masono was a man of strong character who was loyal to the people, to the government and to his God,” President Toroama said. “Bougainville must emulate the type of discipline and principles that he adopted through his life as a loyal servant of the public,” President Toroama added. “The passing of the Late Hon. Raymond Masono also signifies a change in the socio economic dynamics on Bougainville,” President Toroama said. President Toroama said that Mr Masono was a strong proponent of progress that drew the curtains on the Post Conflict and Peace Process period on Bougainville. He said that as Bougainville entered the uncharted it would continue pursue its aspirations for an independent Bougainville which something Mr Masono was passionate about. Former ABG President Grand Chief Dr John Momis was also present at the funeral for the late Minister. The Late Hon. Raymond Masono was Vice President from 2017 to 2020 in the Momis led ABG. Dr Momis described him as an intellectual who encompassed strong leadership skills imbued with integrity and commitment to Bougainville.
