Haku Constituency launches Independence Mission program

A total of nine constituencies have launched their Independence Ready Mission out of the thirty three constituencies in the Autonomous Region of Bougainville.

The launching of the Haku Constituency independence ready mission today brings the total number of constituencies up to ten.

Throughout Bougainville, seven constituencies have done their launching in North Bougainville with two in Central Bougainville and one in South Bougainville.

President Ishmael Toroama and members of ABG were on hand to witness the Member for Haku Xavier Kareku and his constituents launch their independence mission.

Mr Kareku outlined some of the problems and challenges Haku faced but he also offered an optimistic outlook on committing to ensure his people and constituency are independence ready.

“In our attempt to deliver preparedness and forward planning for our constituency, we will encourage corporate partnership, civil partnership and citizen partnership to contribute in any means and forms to make our Constituency one of the leading constituencies in growth and development,” he said.

Mr Kareku said through the Independence Ready Mission he would like to see improvement in infrastructure and economic development for the people.

He said his people are ready to work hard and contribute to nation building for Bougainville.

Haku is one of the most populous constituencies on Bougainville which relies on cash crops as a means of revenue generation but it has potential for greater development.

Meanwhile President Toroama expressed his satisfaction at the people of Haku and their commitment to being independence ready.

He encouraged the constituency to become self-reliant through the development of its human and natural resources.

He said this will strengthen their capacity to support Bougainville to become economically independent to facilitate Bougainville’s political aspirations on independence.

President Toroama said that whilst the constituencies are preparing to be independence ready the government and its administrative arm would also be required to do so as well.

Under this approach each government department and institution will be directed to emulate the constituencies as Bougainville transits from the current autonomous arrangement to being a sovereign independent nation.

Independence Ready then will combine people’s readiness through nation building and the government institutions readiness through state building.
