He said the referendum was successfully accomplished when an overwhelming 97.7% of the people expressed their desire for Bougainville to be an independent nation.

“I am urging our people to join the rest of  Bougainville in completing our political journey to independence” Mr Napto said.

“It’s time we move away from distractions and start working together to make Nissan Island impendence ready,” Mr Napto added.

President Toroama thanked Mr Napto and his constituents for the warm reception and their commitment to the independence ready mission.

“We are no longer dreamers of independence; we have now become the implementers of independence,” President Toroama said.

“When we voted for independence during the referendum that was when we proclaimed our desire to be independent,” President Toroama added.

“We must realise that the desire to be independent is also a declaration to assist our government to be independence ready,” he said.

President Toroama challenged the people of Nissan Island to take up the challenge and make use of the opportunity that has been presented by political arrangements for Bougainville.
